Prince charming wears jeans, drives a car and asks you out for a drink!

“In the car I just can wait to pick you up on our very first date..”

sang Blink 182, and they really get the feeling in this song!

Romanticism was created by writers. We find romanticism in every literature, in every country. We grow up hearing about this prince charming on his white horse coming to rescue us. We believe in Cinderella, Snow-white, Sleeping-Beauty, the Little Mermaid.. and I actually still love these stories, but come on girls! We don’t need to be rescued anymore! We live in a society where the romanticism as told in stories and movies is not real. We all have our idea of what it is. It doesn’t need to be a perfect date, in a perfect day, with flowers and doves flying in the sky. We need to be surprised, but not in the meaning that the person in front of us must create the perfect date, he has to surprise us for who he is; making us comfortable, laughing and forgetting about the time, where we are and about the rest of the world.

Nowadays, the first date come after already knowing a bit about the other person. In fact, we don’t have to underestimate how social media have influenced dating routing. You get in touch with people through Facebook. Asking the number is an old story. You look in Facebook, you send a friendship request and the games are opened! You chat, you get to know each other a little bit and then you go out; making the first date easier.

We might already have some expectation. Nevertheless, our heart is still beating like crazy, we have to think about what to wear (I guess this is shared from all the women in the world), and we hope and we dream.. This is the craziest, bitter-sweet feeling in the world. You just go back to the time when you were a teen, and act in the same way, the same excitement and the same fears. Age doesn’t change you, it just makes you more skilled.

So now, you probably want to know what usually happen in Italy. Are Italian guys the Latin-lovers they have the fame to be?! I’m not going to answer to this, but for me they are. Sometimes they have no shame in coming and talking to you, out of the blue, or offering you a drink or buying you a rose, and this is kind of cute, but when they get into the point of being out with you they are just the nicest, sweetest and excited guy you’ll ever meet.
In my opinion, the first date must give you the possibility to talk a lot, to get to better know the other person. I like going out for a drink, but even going out for a drink requires a good location. It has to be a place with no too loud music and where you can sit, and then after a drink you can go for a walk. I feel like nearby lakes (or sea-sides) is the perfect location, because there you feel the atmosphere and you get relaxed.
Dinner, mmmm, I have the impression that for Italian girls this is the dream date. It takes some guts for a guy to ask you out for dinner: it becomes more complicated, so girls appreciate the effort and feel more important.

How Italians are creative? They cook you dinner, they bring you in their favorite spot (usually guessing right, and leaving you with your mouth open in front of the most amazing view), they bring you to dinner in one of the restaurant you love (they might already know) and they come and pick up (car or motorbike). They choose the perfect lounge or bar, with the perfect atmosphere and selection of drinks. They pay real attention on what they are wearing.
Italians love fashion, food and nightlife, so dating come kind of easy for them. They want to impress you, but at the same time make you laugh and if this happen they know they have won. They know they have to give you fun and taste.
The time? As I have already told you, in one of my previous post, we have our happy hour tradition, so aperitivo can be the perfect time, and you might end up having dinner together.

How Italians are bold? They will probably try to kiss you on a first date..don’t let them! ;)

I really don’t believe guys are not creative about dating or that romanticism is dead. Romanticism is something different from what mass and society have told us. Romanticism is different from person to person. It is something you feel inside, it’s a smile, it’s seeing the most confident men in the world turning into the cutest young teenager, because he is so happy to be with you that he is scared and wish everything will be perfect.
Then, you will have tons of other dates to be perfect, to be more creative, to be about experience you want to share; climbing a mounting, skydiving, parachuting..

The first one just has to be about you two, all the rest doesn’t matter any more.
