TEDx - Inspiring people

Dear readers in Italy, Germany, USA and around the world:

2/3 of Cultrend

Livja and I, Christina, had the opportunity to attended an event called
"Tedx Beacon Street".

In case you haven’t heard of "TED Talks" before, I will give you a brief introduction.

TED (Technology, Entertainment and Design) talks, or so called conferences, are global events where inspiring individuals  talk about  different topics under the slogan "ideas worth spreading".
The talks are broadcasted live, they can be watched all over the world and are published afterwards.

TED's mission:

"We believe passionately in the power of ideas to change attitudes, lives and ultimately, the world. So we're building here a clearinghouse that offers free knowledge and inspiration from the world's most inspired thinkers, and also a community of curious souls to engage with ideas and each other."

TED talk is an event where inspiring people talk about various of topics. These talks are broadcasted live, can be watched all over the world and are published afterwards.

The first time I heard of TED talks was at my high-school, the teachers used TED talk’s videos to illustrate and clarify some topics. The Professors at my University in Germany and now here in Boston are using talks as examples as well.

In my opinion TED talks are a perfect way to present knowledge in an interesting manner.

TEDx is a non-profit TED-like event organized by licensed third parties.

”TEDx program is designed to give communities, organizations and individuals the opportunity to stimulate dialogue through TED-like experiences at the local level. TEDx events are fully planned and coordinated independently, on a community-by-community basis."

Tedx Beacon Street was an amazing event, very informative and inspiring. The speakers on the stage were incredible. They covered topics like cancer, entrepreneurship, loose of data etc.

TEDx speakers had a time limit of maximum 18 minutes and I noticed that most of them were talking roughly 15 minutes.

Click here and you can see the schedule and the speakers of Sunday.

Here are some impressions of the event:

One speaker was really fascinating.
Marco Tempest a Swiss magician, combines magic and technology. He creates astonishing illusions. I have never seen something like this before.

See for yourself:

Livja and I took pictures on the stage.

While taking these pictures Marco Tempest was on stage too. We did not know who he was, because he had not presented his talk yet. So we did not  take any picture with him. Sadly.

Another great speaker was

Kevin Gilbert (photographer) with his topic "The Lost Generation".
What does he mean by that?

He was telling that people nowadays create a lot of data (pictures & videos) but don´t save them correctly. He mentioned that there must be one accident like a house fire, forgotten camera or broken phone and everything is gone "Lost".

Our generation creates a lot of Data. Instagram is a great example.

Alone next year we create this amount of Data:

Kevin Gilbert presented some advice for us, "The Lost Generation", that our beloved pictures, videos and memories are not lost.

Little advice for the "Lost Generation":
1. Get your memories off your old devices
2. Back up your photos in multiple locations
3. Organize your photos into one central place
4. Get your pictures from social media onto local hard drive
5. Put photos into stories to share with generations to come

I think that's so true.

We all forget to store our pictures safely.
We are not used to make photo albums anymore (we nowadays have just electronic data...)

I must sadly experience what Kevin Gilbert said.

Lost Data!
My phone died and with it my pictures.

I will definitely save my data in multiple locations for the future.

I hope you do so, too.

It was amazing to see all these incredible people.

I will definitely attend more TED or TEDx events in future.
They are held all over the world.
Check for the upcoming events here.

I can highly recommend going to TEDx events

Love life.
Liebe das Leben.

Christina.
